Fabric Processes
& Capabilities

What we can achieve…

A length of fabric is a beautiful and tactile object. The wide choice of base cloths and finishes can considerably alter the character of a printed design. The quality of a separation for printed fabric contributes enormously to the overall aesthetic. We work closely with the fabric printer to ensure that not only are our separations of the highest quality, but that they are also technically suitable for the selected print process and ink system.

Digital

Unlimited number of colours, although practical to cap at around 36 if a design requires full separation.

Ideal for very fine and detailed drawing like toiles, wide ranges of tonal movements and watercolour effects, graphic / photographic imagery, large repeat heights or panels, flat images not requiring full separation, lower minimums.

Base Cloths: flatter, tightly woven structures like cotton satin, wool, fine linen, velvet that suit the print-mark and take the dyes really well.

Print Widths: 137.2cm / 54” standard & 132.8cm / 52.3” velvet.

Heights: N/A, although the industry standards of 64cm / 25.2”; 68.8cm / 27.1”; 91.4cm / 36” can be adhered to.

Rotary

20 colours maximum.

Ideal for all types of design from relatively fine to moderately tonal, specialist ink application including paste whites, metallic and mica toners, glitter, devoré (burn out) & discharge (resist). Wet on wet process.

Base Cloths: wide range of suitable base cloths from cotton, linen, unions, wool & silk including more textural, slubbier weave structures that can add depth, dimension and movement to the printed design.

Print Widths: 137.2cm / 54” standard & 132.8cm / 52.3” velvet.

Circumferences: 64cm / 25.2”; 68.8cm / 27.1”; 91.4cm / 36”

Flatbed

14 to 24 colours maximum depending on the repeat height: common heights like 64.1cm  / 25.25” can print up to 24 colours; 76.2cm / 30” can print up to 20 colours; & 91.4cm / 36” can print up to 17 colours.

Ideal for crisp line quality and detail; authentic print qualities including fall-ons; some wet on dry effects through careful positioning of screen rotation and driers along the print bed; emulating block printed effects through clever engraving; good range of tonal movement supported by flat solid colour platforms, specialist inks including paste white & metallic.

Heights: a large range of options available from the smallest of 48.26cm / 19” (on a screen with the internal dimensions of 175cm / 69” x 84cm / 33”) -> medium 64.1 (on a screen with the internal dimensions of 175cm / 69” x 110cm / 43”) -> tallest 111.76 (on a screen with the internal dimensions of 175cm / 69” x 130cm / 51”).
